Savannah Business
Savannah is a growing multi-cultural city with many types of businesses and services to offer its citizens and visitors.
Savannah has a wonderfully diverse population and has experienced strong economic growth over the past five years according to recent statistical reports. Savannah is the most Western port city on the East coast, and has enjoyed tremendous revenues throughout the years from importing and exporting. Additionally, tourism has increased dramatically in recent years due to the popularity of John Berendt's book, "Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil" , which was based on actual people and events that took place in Savannah. The book was made into a movie in 1997 and was directed by Clint Eastwood.
Savannah has certainly come a long was since Oglethorpe landed in 1733, and it continues to grow in population and prosperity each year.

Sensational Offerings at Sensational Minds
by David Norman
Update: Although Sensational Minds Bookstore has closed the doors of the Montgomery Crossroad location, they are now setting up a mobile bookstore and will continue to grow. For more information and to purchase books online, visit the Sensational Minds website at SensationalMinds.com
When Genitha Singleton goes shopping, look out. If your store doesn't offer what she wants, she just might become your competition. That's exactly what happened when Genitha and Don Singleton, co-owners of Sensational Minds bookstore, went shopping for books on African-American subjects a while back at the local mall.
Don explains: "She couldn't find what she was looking for and the selection of African-American authors was quite small. When she complained to me that she should 'open a store of her own,' I said offhandedly, 'Why don't you?' I didn't know what I was in for."
That was just the beginning. Genitha began the arduous task of putting together everything that is needed to open a new business, and in April of 2007 Sensational Minds opened at 129 East Montgomery Crossroads in the Oakhurst Shopping Plaza and stocked books in 22 categories, from history and politics to health and fitness to children's books and Christian reading and more. Sensational Minds offers locals and tourists activities and materials that can't be found anywhere else in town.
"We stock many books that are hard to find and out of print, as well as hosting a number of specialty events," Don observes. "Our goal is to get into this full-time." Currently, in addition to running and promoting the bookstore, both Don and Genitha also work full-time elsewhere. Genitha is in Human Resources at Memorial Hospital and Don is in Patient Accounting at St. Joseph's. Where they find the time for it all is anybody's guess.
The store's website notes recent book signings by Robert Mickels, local author of Blood Kin: A Savannah Story and midnight book releases for books with adult themes, like Karrine Steffans' The Vixen Diaries and Succulent: Chocolate Flava II by the author Zane. Sensational Minds also promotes frequent Children's Story Time Book Readings, featuring storyteller (and education and ecology advocate) Jacqui Anderson, author of Alphonso Adventures: How Elephants Lost Their Tusks.
"We really go out of our way to support all local authors," Don notes. "And we hope the community will get involved and lend their support as well."

Nothing Odd About It
by Jane Martin
Maybe you've heard the buzz about Oddpodz? Created by Karen Post in 2006, Oddpodz is a hip, savvy online community created for artistic, optimistic, business minded risk taking entrepreneurs. (Whew!)
I know, what the heck is it? Perusing Oddpodz.com, I see that it is a place, a community, a blog, an interactive art community, an exhibit hall, an auditorium, a store, an inspirational hub of artistic action. In short, Oddpodz is phenomenal social networking.
Visiting Oddpodz is like entering a blue-sky Matrix-- you like it and want to stay
(Even without Keaneau Reeves). Check out their interactive Muzeum, where you can
click on randomly creative rooms and explore different areas of business and/or pleasure.
I'm not even an artist, and I had to cut my research time short in the music auditorium--lest I forget about my own deadlines! Rummage through their cultural closets. I’m now waiting for The Basement to open, where they promise “dark secrets and the down low.” Fascinating teaser.
Subscribe to Openeyez, a weekly ezine guaranteed to amuse and edify even the most jaded pop-culture readers. Among their back issues, you may discover, as I did, great links, surprising,"useless" info, and suggested reading material. Just this morning, Openeyez turned me on to Sterling Johnson's English as a Second F*cking Language: How to Swear Effectively, Explained in Detail with Numerous Examples Taken From Everyday Life.
And here’s the rub: In September, Oddpodz founders Karen Post and Jocelyn Ring joined forces with The Creative Coast Initiative to relocate their homebase to Savannah, Ga. According to TCCI's CEO, Chris Miller, Oddpodz had considered San Francisco, New York, and Austin before deciding to settle in Savannah, GA. This is sure to be an exciting local and global venture.
