Shop Talk
Savannah’s shopping choices range from extravagant to frivolous. Naturally, the majority of upscale shopping is located in the Historic District, with Broughton Street operating as the area’s “Main Street.” Well known shops (The Gap, Banana Republic, Levy Jewelers, Globe, Birkenstock, etc.) are located here, as well as bountiful souvenir closets and elegant clothing stores. Bay and Bull Streets are also lined with an assortment of venues.
Until the 1950’s, City Market was the center of port city commerce. Now renovated to marketable splendor, this art-infused area gathers a mix of tourists, students, and shoppers. Most of the city’s art galleries and studios thrive here, with a lively mix of cafes and jazz spots. Students and locals with attitude (a cool t-shirt and some memory of enjoying your college years) should not miss out on Vinnie Van Go Go’s. It’s a lively, inexpensive spot to grab a slice of pizza if you’re in the market area.
Local Savannahians and families often flock to River Street on First Saturday.” (first Saturday of each month) Free and open to the public, first Saturday provides a platform for local artists and vendors to sell their goods along the waterfront. Clowns, mimes, and musicians add to the mise-en-scene.
Downtown is also home to some pretty fabulous book stores. E. Shaver Bookseller (Bull Street) offers a great selection of old maps and regional books. For “gently used” books, you can’t beat The Book Lady (Liberty Street). A cozy labyrinth, paradoxical but true.
If you can’t find what you need downtown, just get on Abercorn Street and drive South. There are two major Malls and myriad shopping plazas along the way. Everything you could possibly need is on this strip of road. Check back with us for new info on budget and family shopping ideas.
Alternative Shopping
Every shopper wants a good value - especially in tough economic times. Consider a special alternative way to shop and get a great deal: Consignment Shopping! There are two ways to purchase through consignment - at a special consignment store, and by bidding at a consignment Auction. Both are available in Savannah at several locations. The process is simple - A seller brings an item to the Consignment Store or Auction House, the item is sold at a set price or to the highest bidder, the Auction House retains a percentage fee, and the seller is paid the balance. The Buyer gets a great deal, and both the Consignment Dealer and the Seller receive a cash profit. Everyone wins.

Bull Street Auctions deals with all types of antiques and collectibles, including rugs, furniture, and estate items. They have been doing auctions for more than five years, and have a large number of regular buyers and sellers. Usually 1 or 2 auctions are scheduled each month, and you can call or check their website for the information about the next upcoming auction.

Who are the Mulberry Girls?
Mulberry Girls consists of three “sisters” with a love of life, a wacky sense of fun and a passion for shopping. Knowing each other since birth - literally - Bonnie, Camille and Kelly have combined trust, love and fun (everything they say you shouldn't) into a business. It all started with a few hot contacts from Atlanta to Milan, original artwork, and some really unique items. “Before we knew it friends were asking us to buy for them!”
Putting it all together
Low and behold...The Mulberry Girls trunk show. After a year and a half, Mulberry Girls began its online web store and corporate gift packages. Items for sale range from season to season and depend - quite frankly - on what's hot and new. We've carried everything from custom made jewelry by May River Art to Pylones umbrellas featured in Oprah.
